Antibiotics are one of the greatest inventions in the history of medicine, saving millions of lives around the world. However, who and when invented the first antibiotic?

The first antibiotic to be discovered was penicillin, which was discovered in 1928 by the British bacteriologist Alexander Fleming . Fleming noticed that the medium on which he grew staphylococcus bacteria developed a mold that killed the bacteria. He named this mold "penicillin" and began researching its properties.

However, the first attempts to use penicillin for treatment were unsuccessful, since it was not possible to isolate a pure drug. It wasn't until 1940 that a group of scientists led by Ernest Cheyne and Howard Florey isolated pure penicillin and began producing it on an industrial scale.

Since then, many other antibiotics have been discovered, such as streptomycin, tetracycline, erythromycin, and many others. Each of them has its own characteristics and use in the treatment of various infections.

Today, antibiotics are one of the main means of fighting infections caused by bacteria. However, their misuse can lead to the development of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, making them less effective. Therefore, it is important to use antibiotics only when prescribed by a doctor and follow the instructions for their use.

In conclusion, the first antibiotic was discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928. Since then, many other antibiotics have been discovered that save millions of lives around the world. It is important to use antibiotics only when prescribed by your doctor and follow the instructions for use to keep them effective in fighting infections.
